What is Select Baseball?

The Waterloo Tigers Select program is for registered KW House League players who want to play more baseball at a higher level with an extended season. It allows players to develop their skills and compete against teams outside House League, while still participating in their regular House League games

Where does House League fit in?

All Select players must also play in House League. Schedules are coordinated to avoid conflicts, so players can fully participate in both. More information on House League can be found here.

Does it matter what city I live in?

Not at all. Players from both Kitchener and Waterloo can try out, no matter where you live. Once teams are formed, everyone plays as part of the Waterloo Tigers.

What is the time commitment?

Select is an added commitment on top of House League. Games and practices are usually on weekends. Tryouts take place between September and April, with the season running from May to mid-August. If a team qualifies for the OBA Championships, the season may extend a little longer.

Will there be travel?

Yes, some travel is part of the experience. Teams play against nearby cities through a local league, with a mix of home and away games. Some teams may also choose to enter tournaments, which could involve additional travel.

What are the costs?

Players pay registration fees for both House League (KWHLB) and Select (WMBA). Additional costs may include tournaments, travel accommodation, and team-related expenses.

What happens at tryouts?

Coaches evaluate players during tryouts held between September and April, sometimes over multiple sessions. Players are assessed on hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and overall game knowledge. Final team selections are made after evaluations.

How many players will make the team?

Teams typically have up to 12 players and include two age groups (unlike rep programs, which use single age groups).

What league does Select play in?

Waterloo competes in the Select level in the Intercounty Baseball Association.
