Mike's first experience coaching baseball was as an assistant coach for 8U house league last season. He has a lot of experience as a hockey coach as an assistant coach for Kitchener Minor Atom AAA and Waterloo Minor Atom A/AA. Mike is also the head coach of U6 Ice Wolves and U9 Select hockey team with Waterloo Minor Hockey.
Mike has a well-rounded background of sports. He has developed a passion more recently for baseball as his sons have started to play with KWHLB and now WMBA. Growing up he swam competitively for ROW regularly making finals in Provincial Championship meets. This taught him how to compete and that understanding technical fundamentals gives you an extra edge to win. His first job was a ski instructor for Talisman Mountain Resort, he then worked as an instructor for Chicopee and Blue Mountain. Ski Instructing has taught Mike how to break down technical skills, make them easy for kids to understand, and to progress that skill to the next level. Mike played football as an Offensive Tackle and Defensive End through high school. Through this he learned how every member of a team contributes to its success and how to be a passionate leader. You may notice that there is not a significant background in baseball. While watching/coaching he has constantly been learning the technical aspects of the game and drills to progress those items. He has surrounded himself with assistants who do have that baseball background and through teamwork they will work together to have a fun and competitive season!
